Intel has developed a new technology called Light Peak using optical technology. Intel says devices using this technology would appear in the market the next year probably.
Using this technology you are going to get rid of different sorts of connectors and the speed would be 20 times faster than USB 2.0 used currently. The speed which can be achieved is awesome 100 gigabits per second and is going to transfer a full-length Blu-ray movie in less than 30 seconds!!!!

It would take some time for the huge compahies to adopt this standard but it is a great leap forward in terms of speed and compatibility. We are currently having a maximum of just 480 megabits per second using USB technology…
It is really need of time to transfer to a newer technology since the currently used FET based technology is touching its limits and instead increasing the speed developers are concentrating on increasing the number of cores in the processors. Optical technology is going to be the technology of future although its just connecting various modules at the moment.
Awesome !
you people are so quick i was about to made a post on that topic.
by the way nice work buddies.
Actually, Light Peak has been stated to start with speeds of 10 Gigabits per second to begin with and that within a DECADE, it will reach 100 Gbits/s. So, it’s more like 5 minutes for a BluRay disk, which is still nice and a tenfold improvement over Gigabit Ethernet.
congratulations for putting adds to your site……your site is on my hit list. congrats again.
Thanks Ali, Your appreciation always pushes us to do more
my pleasure…buddy.

I'm not so certain that we need that kind of speed in transferring movies as we seem to do well enough already. I could see it as an alternative to the current cable entertainment as a weeks worth of programs might be stored rather quickly.
But computing at the speed of light really is intriguing for problem solving. I wonder what a chess computer might be like with the programs running at light speed.
