Google Wave is undoubtedly the future of Social Media Networking, Once launched it will give a severe competition to other sites like Facebook & Twitter.
So here are some facts that you probably don’t know about Google Wave.
1. Its Google’s second attempt
Google Wave is not google’s first attempt to enter social media. Orkut was the first project that turned out to be unsuccessful as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter gave it severe competition, so now the Google is back with some very innovative and new ideas.
2. Open Source project
Google Wave is completely an Open Source project. Its source code will be released to the developers, it will help Google to gather the support of developers worldwide.
3. Its already released to 100,000 Users
Google Wave was released to about 100,000 users on September 30, 2009 on a trial basis. It is in beta, development work is in progress.
4. Anyone can Edit !
The concept of Google Wave is that everyone can edit anything anyway they like, which means chats, drafts, party plans and every other thing will be editable. Google provides a playback option which shows who edited what and when. In other words “Everyone will ride the Wave”.
5. Its written in Java
Google Wave code has been written in Java, utilizing its Open JDK.
6. Google aims to replace e-mails by Wave
Google terms Wave as next generation communication network and really hopes that Google wave will replace e-mails in the days to come.
7. Privacy Protection Guaranteed
Security to the users is provided by Google via Transport Layer authentication, which means unauthorized access will not be granted to encrypted Waves, keeping users privacy safe.
i knew some rumors about Google wave but i certainly have no idea about these 7 things thanks for sharing
Wave is not really a replacement for email. It does somethings very well but clearly the focus is on collaboration.
If email were invented today, it would look more like TrulyMail. Here is a company which re-invented email. Sure they have few users but that will change with time.
We all know the problems with email: You don't know if/when your messages are delivered, too much spam, your messages are not really private, etc. TrulyMail solves these problems.
The only problem is that it is a complete replacement for email (it actually has nothing to do with email and uses its own servers). Their latest release includes integration with email to make the transition a bit easier for those of us who live in the real world.
Still, I'm looking forward to Wave going public. I hope they don't keep it in beta for seven years like gmail was.

I think Facebook has murder Orkut. Facebook is now the finest & biggest Social Networking site in the world.
But Google will back soon with new features biggest than Facebook & Twiter
